Monster Rehab Protean + Energy is an American version of Monster Rehab that is sold in Europe. It is advertised as a revitalizing and hydrating energy drink. Additionally it supposedly relieves hangover symptoms.

The Ingredients

The first thing I noticed that this drink is sweetened by Glucose, Sucrose and Sucralose. Glucose, also known as grape sugar, is a type of sugar that can be found in plants. Sucrose is the regular table sugar and it is composed of Glucose and Fructose, the latter found in fruits. Sucraloseis a low-carb chemically created artificial sweetener.

The advertising text describes Rehab to be somewhere in the middle of regular pop, sports drink and energy drink. Sport drinks have protein and electrolytes and so does this. Second ingredient in the list after water is indeed whey protein hydrolysate. It is processed to have maximum speed of absorption. The drink has also plethora of other useful substances, like tea extracts, niacinamide, coconut water, ginseng and L-Carnitine.

Smell and Taste

This drink is really unique. It smells really sweet and fruity. The taste resembles ice tea. I would like it to be carbonated because this way it is not refreshing at all. It is also really sweet and gives a strange after taste, leaving the mouth dry. The taste of tea is obvious since it has black and white tea extracts. Unlike the European counterpart this has no citrus taste at all.

To be honest, I did not like this drink at all. It is so sweet and it is not carbonated at all plus it leaves a bad after taste. However it has many good substances that are suppose to revitalize you body and mind.

Where to Buy?

I have found this only in the German web store where one 16 fl.oz. (473 ml) can costs 4.19 € ($4.50), that is super expensive.
